Post Doctoral Researcher - Regenerative Biology
The Opportunity:
The Post Doctoral Researcher – Regenerative Biology position will be in Dr James Thomson’s laboratory, within the Morgridge Institute for Research and will be responsible for focusing on studying regeneration and de-differentiation in two related research disciplines: limb regeneration using the axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) as a model system, and de-differentiation / reprogramming of human somatic cells. A main goal of this work is to identify similarities and differences between the two systems with regard to gene networks involved in de-differentiation and regeneration. Culture of blastemal cells will likely play an important role in accomplishing this goal. This position will also have the opportunity to identify gene networks involved in pattern formation. Cross-disciplinary collaboration at the Morgridge Institute, particularly with bioinformatics and computational biology, is expected and encouraged.
Candidate Requirements:
The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in biological sciences or a related field and have previous experience and publications in limb development/regeneration. Experience in cell culture (especially of amphibian cells or stem cells), microsurgical techniques, and small quantity RNA analysis is preferred.
The Organization:
The Morgridge Institute for Research is a new, non-profit medical research organization located in Madison, Wisconsin. Research at the Morgridge Institute focuses on solving the intractable problems affecting human health by exploring the intersection of biology, computer science and engineering. Work at the new Institute enhances and complements the world class research activities at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, one of the best-funded research universities in the country.
